In the 1870s workmen employed by politician John Cargill, a son of Captain William Cargill, excavated a tunnel down to a secluded beach so that the Cargill families could bathe in privacy. The short walk down from the road affords some stunning views of the Otago Coast.
Location:The track to the beach starts from the car park at the seaward end of Green Island Bush Road, off Blackhead Road. Public transport is available. The walkway is closed for lambing from 1st of Aug- 31 Oct.
