Ray Columbus rose to national stardom when his band Ray Columbus and the Invaders had a #1 hit on both sides of the Tasman with "She's a Mod" in 1964, becoming the first kiwi act to achieve a #1 hit internationally.

After the Invaders disbanded Ray moved to California where he briefly performed and recorded with the psychedelic rock band The Art Collection. Following his return to New Zealand he continued to record as a solo artist and went on to have a successful career in television.
