Hogsnort Rupert's Original Flagon Band, later shortened to simply "Hogsnort Rupert" was based around two ex-pat Brits Alec Wishart and Dave Luther who shared an interest in skiffle music. They first rose to prominence when they placed third in the 1969 Studio One New Faces competition on television. They had three big hits in 1970, the biggest of which, "Pretty Girl", netted them the Loxene Golden Disc award for that year. In June 1971 Hogsnort Rupert disbanded though there would be several reunions.

In 1983 Dave Luther had a #1 hit, Life Begins at Forty with one-hit wonders Dave and the Dynamos.
