Dragon were formed in Auckland around 1972 by Todd Hunter and relocated to Australia in 1975. They had hits on both sides of the Tasman. Most of the early material was written by Keyboardist Paul Hewson.

Dragon's story is one of mixed fortunes, drugs, controversy and death. Several band members were heavy heroin users and were identified as clients of the notorious Mr Asia drug syndicate. Drummer Neil Storey died of a heroin overdose in 1976 shortly after their transition to Australia. Paul Hewson also died of a drug overdose in 1985 a year after leaving the band. Marc hunter succumbed to oesophageal cancer in 1998.
