DD Smash

Dave Dobbyn (guitar, vocals) Andrew Clouston (saxophone) Peter (Rooda) Warren (drums) Rob Guy (Revox) (guitar) Lisle Kinney (bass)

Following the break up of Th' Dudes, Dave Dobbyn formed DD Smash who distinguished themselves with two number one albums and some memorable hit singles. Peter Warren and Rob Guy formerly played with Lip Service and Lisle Kinney was the bass player for Hello Sailor.

The first album Cool Bananas produced by fellow Dudes band mate Ian Morris, debuted at #1 in the album charts and remained for 24 weeks. At the NZ Music awards in 1982 Dave Dobbyn won top male vocalist and most promising male vocalist, and DD Smash were top group. The album Cool Bananas was album of the year, also picking up the awards for best producer (Ian Morris) best engineer (Paul Streekstra & Doug Rogers) and best sleeve design (Wayne Robinson).

The following year DD Smash also took awards for Album of the Year: Live: Deep in the Heart of Taxes, Single of the Year: Outlook for Thursday, Top Male Vocalist: Dave Dobbyn and Top Group of the Year.
